Elmscot Day Nursery shortlisted for Special Educational Needs and Disability Award at the National Day Nursery Awards 2017
Ami Mahon, the Deputy Manager of Elmscot Day Nursery in Timperley, has been shortlisted for the National Day Nursery Association’s Nursery Awards in the category of Special Educational Needs and Disability Champion.
Ami is devoted to supporting her team with all areas of SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability). In the three years she has worked for Elmscot, Ami has attended many training courses to develop her practice and most recently, in July 2016, completed the NDNA SEND Champions Programme.
The nominee said: “It has been an honour to be recognised for an award such as this. I am truly passionate about supporting children, their welfare and development. Every day is a new adventure when working in early years!”
Ami also liaises with parents from the nursery in order to further support children when they are not in the setting. This is through casual conversation, emails and more formal meetings. Ami ensures parents are always involved in the learning process for each child.
A parent of a child supported by Ami said: “When receiving feedback on my child’s developmental progress I have noted each time that his Key Person has liaised with Ami at every point. If I ever request any strategies or support, staff refer to her. I have frequently felt Ami is the driver in the team helping to progress my child’s learning, and that she supports the team in my child’s room through regular meetings and conversations.”
Ami will attend the annual NDNA ceremony which is taking place on the 30th of June at the Emirates- Old Trafford with her Manager, Justyna Ogrodniczek, and the Directors of Elmscot Group, Stephanie Molnar and Dee McKenzie.
